Motorcycle Insurance

Spring has arrived! What a great time of year to be out in the fresh air; and what better way to enjoy the outdoors than to ride a motorcycle? Motorcycles are fun to ride, economical, and much cheaper to insure than a car. What should you know about insuring your motorcycle? Quite a bit! Most states require you to insure your motorcycle, but few will tell you what coverage you should have.

There are insurance companies that specialize in insuring motorcycles as well as mopeds, scooters, and custom bikes. You should, of course, always ask for help from a professional to understand the lingo as well as what will be covered should you wreck your motorcycle.

Riding a motorcycle, while fun and invigorating, carries much more risk than driving a car, after all you are fully exposed and could sustain great injury should you be involved in an accident. You should always opt for as much coverage as the insurance company has to offer to protect yourself against having to pay the high cost of medical treatment; I recommend opting for no-fault and/or personal injury coverage as well.

Uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage will protect you should you sustain injuries in an accident involved with an individual who does not carry adequate insurance. Essentially, you should cover your motorcycle with at least as much insurance as you would your car. The likelihood of your sustaining more injury in a motorcycle accident is much greater, however, so it’s a good idea to carry more medical coverage than you would on your automobile.
